What we will ask you for.
Nothing here is unusual, but it is all checked before a manuscript reaches an editor, so it is worth having ready. The submission form refuses to complete until each item is present, and it shows every missing item at once rather than one at a time.

The manuscript
- Word processor or LaTeX source. PDF alone is not enough, because we cannot typeset it.
- Figures as separate files at publication resolution, with captions in the manuscript.
- An abstract of up to 300 words, with no undefined abbreviations.
- Three to six keywords. These drive reviewer matching, so precise ones get your work to the right desk faster.
- References in any consistent style. We will format them; we would rather you spent the time on the science.
Authors
Every author needs a name, an affiliation and an email address. ORCID identifiers are strongly preferred and are verified against ORCID at submission.
Each author receives a confirmation request when you submit, and the manuscript waits until all of them have confirmed. Warn your co-authors that the email is coming — the usual cause of a stalled submission is a co-author treating it as spam.
Several authors may be marked as corresponding. One of them is the primary contact, and that is the person every message is addressed to.

Anonymising your own manuscript
On a double-anonymised journal the platform produces the anonymised copy for you: it strips document metadata, removes the acknowledgements, and takes out grant numbers.
The one thing it cannot do is rewrite your prose. Check the body text for phrasing that identifies you — "as we showed in our earlier work" with a citation to yourself is the usual giveaway. Cite your own work in the third person.
After a decision
Revisions are submitted as a new version of the same manuscript, keeping the same reference. A point-by-point response to the reviewers is required; reviewers read it first, and a good one shortens the second round considerably.
If a manuscript is not accepted, an editor may offer to transfer it to another Scientara journal. The files and the reports travel with it, and the receiving journal can often decide without another round of external review. Reviewers are asked for permission separately before their reports move, and you are free to decline the offer.
Proofs
Proofs arrive within about ten working days of acceptance and are due back in 48 hours. At that stage we can fix errors but cannot accept changes to the scientific content.
