About
Why another publisher.
Because the parts of publishing that authors complain about most are not hard problems. They are consequences of systems built to be convenient for publishers.
What we are trying to fix
Three things, specifically.
Waiting without knowing. Authors are told nothing for months and cannot tell whether their manuscript is being reviewed or has been forgotten. We publish time to first decision per journal and show authors where their manuscript actually is.
Review that disappears. A reviewer spends a day on a careful report which is then read by three people and deleted. Where an author and a reviewer both agree, we publish the reports with DOIs so the work counts and readers can see the argument.
Money leaking into decisions. Not through corruption, usually, but through visibility: if an editor can see who has paid, it is in the room. So editors cannot see it. The system does not return payment records to an editorial account.

Where we are
The first titles are in preparation. Editorial boards are being assembled, and ISSNs have been applied for. We would rather launch one journal that works than five that are empty, so titles open one at a time as their boards come together.
If you would like to serve on a board, review, or discuss a submission before we open formally, write to editorial@scientara.org.
