Open Access & Copyright Policy

Everything NOVAXIS publishes is open access: every article is freely available online, worldwide, from the moment of publication. No subscription, registration or payment is required to read, and no embargo period applies to any content. The journal takes this position because the value of research grows with its reach, and because paywalled access is incompatible with the funder and institutional mandates under which most of our authors work.

Copyright: authors retain it

Authors keep the copyright in their work without restriction. On acceptance, authors grant NOVAXIS a non-exclusive licence to publish the article, to distribute it in all formats and media, and to identify itself as the original venue of publication. The journal never requires copyright transfer. Rights remain with the people who created the work, and all downstream reuse is governed by the article's open licence rather than by publisher permission.

Licence terms

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY 4.0). The licence is the default because it permits the widest lawful reuse, satisfies the open access requirements of major research funders, and removes the need for case-by-case permission requests. A more restrictive Creative Commons licence is considered only where an author's funder or applicable law demonstrably requires it.

Readers and reusers mayCondition
Read, download, print and redistribute the article in any mediumAttribution: credit the authors, cite the source with its DOI, name the licence
Adapt, translate, excerpt and build upon the work, including commerciallyIndicate clearly if changes were made; do not imply endorsement by the authors or the journal
Perform text and data mining, including use in machine-learning corporaSame attribution terms; no additional legal or technical restrictions may be imposed on the reused material

Publication charges and editorial independence

Publishing costs are met through article processing charges, set out with current amounts and waiver criteria on the journal's Article Processing Charges page. Waivers and discounts are available on demonstrated need, including for authors in low- and middle-income countries. Editorial decisions are made in complete separation from payment: editors and reviewers have no access to fee or waiver information, and ability to pay plays no role in acceptance or rejection.
